1. Visa Waiver for Taiwanese passport holders / 持台灣護照者免簽證
On January 11, 2011, Taiwan's application for visa-free treatment in the Schengen Area came into force. From January 11, 2011, the Taiwan passport is valid for short-term business and travel visa-free treatment in the Schengen area. Hungary belongs to the Schengen Area. Taiwanese passport holders do not need to apply for short-term (so-called "type C") visa when entering Hungary or any other member state of the Schengen Area.
Visa-free application is applicable for a maximum stay of 90 days in the Schengen area within six months. The identity card number is indicated in the Taiwan passport and the validity period is at least three months. For related regulations, please read the visa requirements page.
2011年1月11日，台灣適用申根區域免簽證待遇正式生效 (2010.12.27) 2011年1月11日起，台灣護照適用申根區域短期商務、旅遊免簽證待遇正式生效，匈牙利即屬於申根區域。免簽證適用於六個月內申根區域最長停留90天，台灣護照內註明身分證字號，且效期至少具有欲停留時間再加三個月。相關規定，請詳閱簽證須知頁面。

Countries of the Schengen Agreement that are EU-member states:
- Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Countries of the Schengen-agreement that are not EU-member states:
- Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
Countries that are EU-member states (but not part of the Schengen Area) and apply the visa-waiver for Taiwan-passport holders:
- Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania
2. General information on Applying for a short-term (Schengen, type-C) visa to enter Hungary
- The Hungarian Trade Office in Taipei represents Lithuania, Malta and Slovenia for processing type-C short-tem Schengen visas (not exceeding 90 days). This visa representation is exclusive for type C visas, and our Office is not authorised to issue any other type of visas for these member states. Foreign residents in Taiwan who need a visa (other than type C) to these member states are kindly advised to contact the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs or their foreign Missions. (Lithuania; Malta; Slovenia).
- Traveling to Malta: When submitting the Schengen visa form and other relevant supporting documents, please include the necessary "Declaration of Proof of accommodation/bearing costs" form and its attachments as requested by the Malta authorities.

3. Visa Application for residence / stay over 90 days

The Implementation legislation of the new Immigration Law in Hungary entered into force January 1, 2024.
Please note that applications have to be submitted via new application forms, which can be accessed from the homepage of the immigration authority of Hungary here by clicking on the "Residency in Hungary ” option at the top left corner. Applications submitted using the old forms will not be accepted!
The website of the Immigration of Hungary contains a brief description of each residency purpose and the list of documents to be submitted as well as the downloadable application forms. The Immigration of Hungary is continuously updating its homepage, therefore please check regularly the above mentioned homepage for new information.
