Certificate of marital status

In order to get married in Taiwan, the Hungarian citizen who intends to get married must provide a certified document proving that they are legally capable of marriage under Hungarian law – that theys meet the age requirements and that they are not married.

Such a document is issued by the registrar in Hungary and by the Consul abroad:

  • The certificate issued by the Hungarian registrar must go through the authentication steps in Hungary and must also be accompanied by a certified Chinese translation.
  • Our Office can issue the certificate of marital status in Hungarian, English or Chinese.

Certificate of marital status

1. We recommend you to first inquire at the local Taiwanese marriage registrar (where you would like to get married):

  • about what kind of documents you will be needing in order to get married in Taiwan,
  • and whether they accept the documents our Office issues  (e.g. single’s certificate without diplomatic authentication).

 2. We can issue the certificate of marital status for Hungarian citizens:

  • based on the data in the Hungarian personal data and residential address register. We can issue the marital status certificate in Hungarian, English and Chinese.
  • The application has to be submitted in person by the Hungarian citizen at our office, based on a prior appointment.
  • The applicant has to bring their Hungarian identification document (Hungarian passport or ID card or driver's license) and address card (lakcímigazoló kártya) to the office.
  • We issue the certificate on the spot.

3. After you got married in Taiwan we can register your marriage at our Office. 

4. Once we have registered your marriage, we can also register your residence permit application for the purpose of family reunification (family-visa) if you wish to move to Hungary with your Hungarian spouse:
