General Information:

  • The Hungarian Trade Office in Taipei and the Taipei Representative Office in Hungary have approved an Arrangement on the operation of the Working Holiday Scheme between the Parties.
  • Please check the requirements, application forms and other required documents for obtaining a WHS visa at the webpage of the Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF): http://oif.gov.hu/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=2247&Itemid=2472&lang=en
  • The purpose of the Scheme is to enhance cultural and people-to-people contacts between Hungary and Taiwan in order to promote mutual understanding.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Working Holiday Visa applicant?

  • a person who holds a Taiwan passport valid for more than twelve (12) months upon arrival in Hungary and who has household registration under the laws of Taiwan;
  • has the primary intention to holiday in Hungary, with employment or study being an incidental rather than a primary reason for the visit and will depart Hungary at the end of the visit;
  • is aged between eighteen (have already had the 18th birthday) and thirty-five years (have not had the 36th birthday, yet) at the time of application;
  • is not accompanied by dependants;
  • has an airplane ticket (incl. return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase such ticket; destination has to be Hungary);
  • has 3000 USD or equivalent TWD for his/her maintenance during the period of stay in Hungary, at the discretion of the relevant authorities;
  • pays the prescribed temporary residence permit application fee 110 EUR (from 22 January 2022);
  • has valid medical and comprehensive hospitalization insurance throughout his/her stay in Hungary; It is obligatory only after arriving in Hungary;
  • has not participated in the Scheme before.

Term of validity of the Working Holiday visa:

  • The WHS visa issued by the Hungarian Trade Office, Taipei will be valid for 90 days within a period of 365 days with multiple entries. Applicants have to collect their residence permit card in Hungary at the immigration authorities after arrival.
  • Participants in the Scheme should not work for the same employer for more than 3 months and cannot engage in permanent employment.
  • Participants in the Scheme may enroll in one training or study course not exceeding a total of three (3) months duration during the course of their visit to Hungary.

Number of participants per year:

  • Up to one hundred (100) per annum of the temporary residence permits may be issued to Taiwanese applicants.

Any citizen of Taiwan who is granted the Working Holiday Visa has the right:

  • to stay in Hungary;
  • to undertake paid employment pursuant to the terms of this Arrangement for a period of not more than twelve (12) months from the date of entry into Hungary;
  • to enroll in training and/or study course pursuant to the terms of this Arrangement; and
  • to enter and exit Hungary during the period of validity of the temporary residence permit.

Processing of the Working Holiday Visa:

  • The processing time is not more than 21 days if applicant fulfills all eligibility criteria. 
  • The WHS visa issued by the Hungarian Trade Office, Taipei will be valid for 90 days within a period of 365 days with multiple entries.
  • After arriving in Hungary the WHS visa has to be exchanged into a residence permit at the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF). For the application a permanent address and a comprehensive insurance will be mandatory.

Important Notice:

  • Please be aware that in order to get the Working Holiday Visa you must possess (at least) basic English or Hungarian skills.

  • Please bring the following to your appointment:

    • filled out application form Download Application Form
    • passport
    • ID photos    
    • airplane ticket (incl. return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase such ticket; destination has to be Hungary);
    • bank statement (having at least 3000 USD or equivalent TWD on it)
    • Schengen insurance 
    • proof of accomodation 
    • if you already know where you would visit/work/study, please bring the corresponding papers; 

  • Visa application fee: 110 EUR 

ATTENTION!

Starting from July 31, 2024 you can hand in your WHS visa application online before your in-person visa appointment at the https://konzinfostart.mfa.gov.hu website to reduce significantly the time spent at our Office. After completion, please make an appointment for payment (if applicable), fingerprint and signature collection and submission of the documents at our Office via phone at 02-8501-1200, ext. 111. 

Please follow the next steps for a successful online application:

  1. Please complete the application in full and fill in all the fields marked with a *. If you cannot fill in one of the fields, please type "unknown".
  2. Attach the necessary documents in PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, DOC or DOCX format of up to 5 MB in size. File names cannot exceed 45 characters and must contain only Latin characters.
  3. After you have completed the application, the system will offer the option to pay online if this service is available at the chosen consulate. If this service is not available at the consulate of your choice, you will be able to pay the visa fee in person at the consulate.
  4. After you have sent the application, please print the form and the appendix by clicking the “Form (PDF)” button.

You can find your application in the Home Page / My applications / Prepared online folder or as an attachment to the email confirming the sending of the application.

  1. IMPORTANT! Sending the application form electronically is not enough to initiate the procedure. The procedure starts with the submission of the application in person at our Office.
  2. Book an appointment to submit the application at our Office via phone at 02-8501-1200, ext. 111. When submitting the application, please bring:
    • your passport
    • the printed form,
    • the appendix and
    • the necessary original documents to our Office.
